Tuesday Big B texted me about getting a drink, which I agreed to and invited an actor I made friends with while working at Trendy - we will call him Court. We all met at B.E.S, a super romantic little bar deep in Chelsea. Big B of course took to Court immediately, Court being a tall, beautiful man and Big B being the most predatory homo I’ve ever met. And over course, Big B wanted to talk about nothing but work, he could not be moved from his focus. Work and himself. His first few jobs, how he decided just to strike out on his own, the places his books talent, getting his license. He could name almost everyone in the whole entertainment scene from where they work now to their mother’s maiden names. And, most importantly, he described a fundraiser he is now throwing to raise HIV awareness that Lady Gaga is performing at.
Big B’s one not work related anecdote? He laughed as he described meeting me on the Law and Order set, my hair pulled back and my clothes torn and baggy. But he invited me to his Halloween party anyway. It was to his pleasure and surprise that I showed up to the party looking beautiful. In fact, he almost didn’t recognize me. There was a pause at the end of his story. ”So, that’s the story?” I said, “You thought I was ugly and then I turned out not to be.” He laughed and shrugged. ”Well…yeah!”
He scratched behind his ear and sighed. He wistfully said how many auditions he could totally get Court, if only he wasn’t so busy looking for more sponsors for his event. He specifically mentioned one local heiress living in New York (who I will call Velvet). And then he looked right at me. I got it. It was like we were playing tennis but with words. The girl he mentioned happens to be a good friend of mine from childhood. I looked at him directly and with a stern voice told him if he could get Court an audition, I could help find him sponsors. He smiled.
“I could get him so much more then an audition.”
“Well I could get you way more then Velvet.”
Again, he smiled his devilish smile. The next morning, I woke to an array of emails from Court and texts from Big B. Big B booked Court an audition with a reputable commercial production agency. Court asked me to be his manager. Big B asked me when he could have that lunch with Velvet.
I currently cannot focus on how deep in over my head I am moving.
